South African Gumboot Dance

Gumboot dance is an expressive and rhythmic form of South African dance which started in the gold mines during racial segregation. The rubber boots worn became a means of communication amongst the miners who were forbidden from talking to each other.

Throw on some rubber boots and get your full body working with this very fun and rhythmic dance where the body becomes the musical instrument. We will be stomping, slapping, clapping and even using our voices. There is much room for a lot of silliness and definite increased heart rate.
